To further understand why shoppers seem to be moving away from larger stores, we need to look at another big trend in the retail industry: the importance of convenience and accessibility.
When people can shop online and have items delivered to their homes in a matter of hours, it takes the promise of a quick, easy experience to entice them to make the trip to an actual physical location.
Instead, they want ease and efficiency in the form of smaller stores with specialized selections. There are other benefits to smaller stores as well. They cost less money to open and operate, and they take up less space in urban environments, allowing retailers to capitalize on the potential of large population centers. Personalization will become increasingly important to consumers.
Unfortunately, the tactics retailers once used to speak directly to customers (such as using first names in an email) have become outdated and transparent in the eyes of those very customers. At the same time, though, consumers are searching more and more for personalized shopping experiences they can really connect with, so 2017 should see retailers testing new ways to appeal to this desire.
One retailer at the forefront of this trend. The athleticwear brand has always been innovative when it comes to personalization (allowing shoppers to customize their sneakers, etc. Of course, Nike is massive and financially successful, so they have the resources to push personalization to its limits.
But smaller retailers can take advantage of this trend, too. Consumers are more and more prepared to give access to their data for a fair loyalty offering or personalized incentive. Same-day shipping will become more prominent. The name of the new game. Consumers might not want to actually make the trip to physical locations, but they still want the instant gratification of taking their purchases home immediately. Is fulfillment feasible based on the location(s) of the retailer.
Retailers will continue to invest in omnichannel. Omnichannel is now the standard. In 2017, we can expect retailers worldwide to push their omnichannel strategies further than ever before in the pursuit of truly seamless shopping experiences. The retail world is rife with examples of this.
Moving forward, these omnichannel efforts will be the difference between the retailers who succeed and the ones who fail. They also see the value in kitting out their physical space with a welcoming environment and paying more for experienced staff. But when it comes to small businesses investing in their digital platforms (aka the backbone of day-to-day operations), cheaper or free have traditionally been the go-to solutions.I have already recommend Nordic Visitor to several friends and family members.
We had an absolutely amazing trip and I can't wait to come back. Everyone was helpful and patiently answered all of my questions. I'm very happy we chose Nordic Visitor for our trip and I would choose them again. Excellent company to work with. The materials provided to us were well chosen and very helpful. We asked for additional copies of the road map and bound guide and these were waiting for us on our return to Reykjavik.
A pleasure doing business with Nordic Visitor. We usually book all our own arrangements, Italy, France, Germany, England, Ireland, Scotland etc but it was very nice to leave it to you folks to handle it in such detail but leave it to us to execute. I will highly recommend the service.
Helga, our agent was great. We have used Nordic Visitor for trips to Iceland and Norway. I very much appreciate the work that they do to set it all up for us. The places we stayed were delightful. We felt we experienced a range of well chosen accommodations, with very friendly staff and excellent food. In particular, we really enjoyed Hotel 13. We could not have asked for a better travel agent. When my wife developed an emergency medical problem and we had to delay our trip by 3 days, Petra made all the adjustments without skipping a beat.
She secured refunds on everything that she could. The service provided by Nordic Visitor was excellent and we had one of the best and most enjoyable holidays we have ever had.
It was a pity that the offices have moved out of the centre of Reykjavik as we would have liked to have visited to thank Klara in person. The self-drive tour was wonderful for us. It meant that we did not have to plan ourselves, and were advised of the best things to see along the way. However we still had the freedom to chose other things. The United States' competitors, in Europe and the Far East, also need to consider such measures, and might actually find some of them easier to implement.

Their travel expert Sigfus worked with before and during the trip to ensure we made the most of vacation.
His suggestions were on point and we are glad that we used this travel agency. The in person consultation was another example of excellence. We even got calls during to make sure we are OK and to give us updates on volcano. Thanks to Nordic Visitor and Sigfus, our Iceland trip was the most memorable one.
Everything was smooth from pick up of tickets in the Oslo train station to check in at each hotel. A truly wonderful train trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of beautiful Norway, the tour was very well organized and easy to negotiate without a guide. It provides a good introduction to Norway for the first time visitor and I would highly recommend it. Thank you so much, we had a wonderful trip and Nordic Visitor and in particular Cecilia were wonderful. You have made it a special and memorable time for us and we thank you for all your work and attention to detail.
My wife and I completed the Iceland Full Circle self drive trip on August 26 arranged by Hilmar and Signy of Nordic Visitor. We were happy with all of our accommodations and very glad that we waited until after our trip began to plan a couple optional excursions such as the zodiac boat ride on a glacial lagoon and the Blue Lagoon on a rainy day the day we departed. The scenery was so spectacular that we hiked more than I expected we would plus since we lucked out on the weather, we wanted to be outside.
Bad weather our last two days caused us to explore a textile museum and the Skagafjordur Folk Museum featuring turf buildings.
Helpful hint-if you want to climb Mount Namafjall (mud pots, fumaroles, etc. I would recommend this service to anyone. They made our trip to Sweden effortless. We encountered passport problems at the start of our trip which resulted in a delay and Cecilia was able to rearrange everything for us. She went above and beyond in service to us. This is the only way to go and I would definitely use this service again. Our Southern Iceland self-driving tour was wonderful.
Working with Larus, at Nordic visitor, was a breeze, even though he was coordinating a trip for members from the US and Australia. He changed accommodations and upgraded things without any problems.Use a few different terms to be doubly sure. There's a specific format to post comps in, so people can search and track competitions.
When writing the title, first put the end date, then a description of prize, like this:If there's an age restriction, add this to the end of the title, eg, (U16). If a comp has an end time, as well as date, post this in the title too. Then just post a link to the competition, explaining in your own words what the prize is. Some firms complain about copyright when details are copied and pasted wholesale.
Comps are everywhere: magazines, newspapers, websites, shops, the telly. Scrutinise flyers in shops, supermarket shelves and websites. The more obscure the publication or product, the better chance of you being the first to post it on the forum. It's worth browsing WHSmith's magazine shelves for publications with comps. If you're feeling brave, you could note down the details. The competitions board's only for comps that are free to enter, though those requiring a stamp, a postcard or a text are fine.
While blind luck is out of your control, you do have control over the number of comps you enter.
After some highly sophisticated number crunching, we came up the following surprising statistic: the more you enter, the bigger the chance of winning. So get that mouse clicking. For that I put in approximately 1,500 hours or four hours per day. When looking for comps, you may come across websites and magazines charging to view lists of contests.
Never pay to register with a competitions site. Often they just focus on obvious contests, and can't compete with the army of kindred spirit compers using this site's forum.
If you have any suspicions about a competition, flag up your worries with seasoned compers on the Competitions forum board. All companies should be listed on the official Companies House site, the Government register of UK firms. Be wary if its records show a PO Box address or just an email. You can also find out who registered the site, and when, on the Go Daddy Whois database, or study the site's worldwide web ranking on Alexa.
A common timeshare company ruse is to say you've won a totally free, no-strings-attached holiday. These are best avoided. For more on this, read former MSE Rose's Don't try to sell a timeshare to a MoneySaver blog. There's a voluntary stamp of approval for competitions provided by the Institute of Promotional Marketing.
To include the stamp logo on a competition's advertising, promoters must get it approved by the IPM's legal experts, who will check it conforms to Advertising Standards Authority codes.
Everyone needs protection software, especially compers, who may click on hundreds of new sites each day. Without up-to-date protection, if you're defrauded, banks could argue negligence, leaving you liable. A host of professional-level Free Antivirus Software is available, including crucial regular updates.
Most contests are for promotional purposes. Those that require fees are essentially lotteries and gambling. While the cost of a stamp's fine, beware this takes away from any winnings.
